Tamil Nadu's housing department plans SPEED, an AI-based system to speed up building plan approvals, with rollout expected in six to seven months.
Principal Secretary R. Kirlosh Kumar said SPEED (Single Platform for Efficient Expedited Development) will link CMDA, the town planning directorate, local bodies, TNRERA and the departments that issue no-objection certificates. It will sort buildings into low, medium and high categories, treat an NOC as granted if a department does not reply within 30 days, and set one common inspection date. He spoke at CREDAI Tamil Nadu's Statecon 2026; onboarding of a service provider is due to start in October.
