Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5, a small, low-cost model for high-volume jobs such as summaries, classification and database queries.

For prompts up to 100,000 tokens it costs USD 0.10 per million input tokens and USD 0.50 per million output tokens. Anthropic says it costs about 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5 on average.

For Tamil Nadu: Small businesses that sort customer messages or summarise documents in bulk can now do it at a fraction of earlier costs.

Mistral opened a public preview of Mistral Large 4, a 1-trillion-parameter open-weight model, and said the weights will follow by the end of October.

The model has 52 billion active parameters and reads text and images. The preview API costs USD 1.36 per million input tokens and USD 4.18 per million output tokens. Mistral has not yet named the licence.

For Tamil Nadu: Once the weights are out, companies that must keep data on their own servers will have one more large model to consider, though running it needs serious GPU hardware.

Google announced Gemini 4 Argon, a new frontier model for software engineering, legal and finance work and cyber defence, first released only to trusted cyber defenders.

Google says paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers will get it next. The introductory API price is USD 2 per million input tokens and USD 10 per million output tokens, rising to USD 4 and USD 20 later.

For Tamil Nadu: Most builders in Tamil Nadu cannot use it yet, but the published prices help with planning if your product already runs on Gemini.

Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5, the first model in its Claude 5.5 family, for long coding and knowledge-work tasks.

Anthropic says it costs about 40% less to run than Opus 5 on typical workloads. API prices are USD 4 per million input tokens and USD 20 per million output tokens, and it is also offered through AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.

For Tamil Nadu: Teams already paying for Opus 5 can get a lower bill for similar work by switching the model name, so it is worth re-checking costs.

OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, two lower-cost models in its GPT-6 family for coding, professional work and everyday use.

Sol is aimed at coding and professional work at USD 2 per million input tokens and USD 10 per million output tokens. Luna costs USD 0.10 and USD 0.50, and Free and Go users can use it in the ChatGPT desktop app.

For Tamil Nadu: Luna's price is low enough for a student project or a small business chatbot to run on a tight budget, so it is worth testing before choosing a costlier model.

GitHub Copilot CLI can now find models running locally in Ollama and switch to them without a restart.

The feature arrived in CLI version 1.0.94-0. It does not install Ollama or download models, and local models must support tool calling and streaming. Choosing a local model does not turn on offline mode by itself.

For Tamil Nadu: Developers with a capable laptop can try an open model on their own machine inside Copilot, which can help with cost and with code they would rather keep local.

At DevDay 2026, OpenAI let Codex run in the cloud and from a phone, refreshed the Codex command-line tool, and released GPT-6.1 Sol.

The updated Codex CLI and a new code review feature for GitHub and GitLab are open to all plans. OpenAI also announced an Agents API with computer use and a Decisions API for classification and routing.

For Tamil Nadu: Students and small teams on any ChatGPT plan can try the new Codex CLI and code review to check their own projects.

Google released two Gemini 3.8 text-to-speech models that support over 100 languages and can copy a voice from a 30-second sample.

Voice copying needs a spoken consent recording from the voice owner, and every clip carries a SynthID watermark. Google says voice copying through AI Studio is not available in India.

For Tamil Nadu: Builders in India can use the standard voices for narration and voice agents, but not the voice-copying feature for now.

Google DeepMind introduced SynthID Bio, a way to put hidden watermarks into AI-designed proteins that stay in the physical protein.

In lab tests, watermarked protein designs worked as well as unwatermarked ones. DeepMind is publishing the method in Nature and releasing code, lab data and model weights to researchers.

For Tamil Nadu: Biotech and life-science students can follow an early attempt to make AI-designed biology traceable, which may shape future safety rules.

Anthropic committed USD 11.6 billion over seven years to Akamai's cloud to support its growing CPU workloads, with room for USD 9 billion more.

The deal covers CPU computing; the announcement does not mention GPUs. Akamai's cloud runs across thousands of locations. Akamai expects to spend about USD 5.5 billion on equipment for it.

For Tamil Nadu: It shows that running AI agents needs ordinary CPU servers as well as GPUs, a useful point for anyone planning data-centre or cloud capacity.

Alibaba unveiled the Zhenwu V900 AI chip, which it says has three times the performance of its previous chip, with mass production planned for early 2027.

The chip has 216 GB of memory and supports clusters of up to 500,000 cards. Alibaba also set a target of more than 20 GW of data-centre capacity by 2032.

Google released EmbeddingGemma 2, an open 740-million-parameter model that turns text, code, images, audio and video into searchable vectors.

It is under the Apache 2.0 licence and is on Hugging Face and Kaggle. Google says text-only use needs as few as 270 million parameters, and it reports the full model running on a Pixel phone in about 567 MB of memory.

For Tamil Nadu: Students and startups can build search over their own documents or photos on a laptop or phone, without paying for an API.

NVIDIA released Kumo Tabular, open models that predict labels for spreadsheet-style data without any training, under a licence that allows commercial use.

You give it labelled rows and it predicts new rows in one pass, for classification or regression. The three sizes range from about 28 million to 215 million parameters.

For Tamil Nadu: Businesses with sales or inventory tables can try quick predictions without a data science team, but should check accuracy on their own data first.

Xiaomi released MiMo-V2.6 under the MIT licence; its Pro version scored highest among open-weight models on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index.

The Pro model has 1.02 trillion total parameters, 42 billion active, and the weights are on Hugging Face. Anthropic had earlier accused Xiaomi and six other Chinese labs of harvesting Claude outputs; Xiaomi had not responded.

At SEMICON India 2026, Ashwini Vaishnaw said the second phase of India's chip programme aims for 200 chip design startups and 1 lakh trained technicians.

Semicon 2.0 was approved in July 2026 with an outlay of Rs 1,27,500 crore. It covers chip design, equipment and materials, new fabs, packaging, research and skills.

OpenAI will add hidden watermarks to ChatGPT and Codex text in the EU to meet the EU AI Act's rule that AI-generated text be machine-detectable.

The EU rollout takes place over the coming weeks. API users worldwide can switch it on for some models, and it is off by default. OpenAI says detection is less reliable for short or heavily edited text.
