Liquid AI released LFM2.5-24B-A2B, an open-weight reasoning model with 24 billion parameters built to run agents on laptops and phones.

Only about 2 billion parameters are active per token, so it runs fast on local hardware: Liquid AI reports about 184 tokens a second on an Apple M5 Max. It supports llama.cpp, MLX, vLLM, SGLang and ONNX from day one. The maker reports strong tool-use scores but weaker coding and science results than a larger rival, and the page names no licence.

Why it matters in Tamil Nadu

Students and startups can test private, offline AI agents on their own machines without paying for an API.
