Ai2 released HiRO-ACEv2, open models that simulate weather and extreme events at 3 km resolution far more cheaply than physics models.

The system pairs ACE, which runs at about 100 km, with HiROv2, which sharpens the output to 3 km for rain, wind and pressure. Ai2 says global 3 km data costs roughly 300 times less than running the X-SHiELD physics model. The models are on Hugging Face, with tutorial notebooks and a web demo.

Why it matters in Tamil Nadu

Researchers and students in Tamil Nadu, which faces cyclones and floods, can study high-resolution weather on modest computers.
