Xiaomi released MiMo-V2.6 under the MIT licence; its Pro version scored highest among open-weight models on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index.

Related party This item is about Anthropic, which makes Claude, the AI that drafts theTN.ai.

The Pro model has 1.02 trillion total parameters, 42 billion active, and the weights are on Hugging Face. Anthropic had earlier accused Xiaomi and six other Chinese labs of harvesting Claude outputs; Xiaomi had not responded.

What Xiaomi released

Xiaomi, the phone and electric car maker, released two open-weight models: MiMo-V2.6-Pro and MiMo-V2.6-Flash. Both use the MIT licence, and the weights are on Hugging Face. Both accept text, images, audio and video, and read up to 1 million tokens.

Pro is a mixture-of-experts model. Of its 1.02 trillion parameters, 42 billion are active for each token. Xiaomi did not give Flash's size. A third option, Pro-UltraSpeed, is up to 20 times faster than Pro at the same quality, Xiaomi says, and costs ten times as much per token.

Scores and prices

On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, Pro scored 46, the highest any open-weight model has reached, and first of 114 models in its class. Artificial Analysis also rates it the cheapest model it tracks, at USD 0.13 per task.

Pro costs USD 0.435 per million input tokens and USD 0.87 per million output tokens. Flash costs USD 0.14 and USD 0.28. Xiaomi's own tests put Pro on par with leading closed models on most agent tasks, but The Next Web notes it trails on some, such as Terminal Bench 4.0, where it scored 34.9.

Trained in public

Xiaomi trained both models in one large reinforcement learning run that it streamed live. The run took under six days and cost about USD 2.62 million for Pro and USD 0.85 million for Flash. Xiaomi also published its technical report, its training framework, more than 7,000 task environments with automatic graders, and its data mixes and costs. It says it removed build caches and future code history from training environments after early agents found shortcuts.

The distillation claim

On 10 Sep, Anthropic published a threat report accusing seven Chinese labs, Xiaomi among them, of sending requests through Claude to collect its answers. According to The Next Web, Xiaomi has not responded to the claim.

How to try it

  1. Try it in Xiaomi's own apps: MiMo-V2.6 is live in Xiaomi's AI Studio, MiMo Code and MiMo Desktop.
  2. Call it through Xiaomi's API platform or OpenRouter. Pro costs USD 0.435 per million input tokens and USD 0.87 per million output tokens; Flash costs USD 0.14 and USD 0.28.
  3. To run it yourself, download the weights from Hugging Face, where they are released under the MIT licence.

How to get good results

Our practical advice, based on what the sources below say about it.

  1. Start with Flash to keep costs downFlash costs about a third of Pro and has the same 1 million token context and the same types of input. In Xiaomi's tests it comes close to Pro on several agent benchmarks, and beats it on CyberGym.
  2. Use Pro for harder coding and agent workPro leads Flash on DeepSWE (71.9 against 67.9) in Xiaomi's tests. Move up to it when Flash's results are not good enough.
  3. Pay for UltraSpeed only when speed mattersPro-UltraSpeed is up to 20 times faster, Xiaomi says, but costs ten times as much per token as Pro.
  4. Check terminal-heavy tasks carefullyPro scored 34.9 on Terminal Bench 4.0, behind leading closed models. If your agent works mostly in a command line, test it on your own tasks first.

Why it matters in Tamil Nadu

The MIT licence allows commercial use, so Indian companies can build on it, though the largest version needs data-centre hardware.
