An EY and CII report says Coimbatore has over 75 global capability centres and could host nearly 200 by 2032.
AI translation
The report counts a tech workforce of over 300,000 and more than 30,000 STEM graduates a year in the city.
What the report says
EY and CII released a report called Leapfrog 2032: The Road to 200 GCCs in Coimbatore in the city on 30 Sep 2026. It says Coimbatore has more than 75 global capability centres (GCCs) today and could have nearly 200 by 2032. That means about 125 more in six years.
The report expects the city's GCC ecosystem to grow 10-12% a year at first, rising to 24-27% a year by 2032, or about 21% a year on average. Some centres in the city already have more than 1,000 staff.
Why Coimbatore
The city has 3.8 million people, a tech workforce of more than 300,000, 137 engineering colleges and more than 30,000 STEM graduates a year. The report also points to lower attrition than big metros, Grade A office space at competitive rents, Tamil Nadu's payroll-linked GCC incentives, and innovation support such as SNS iHub.
The 5R plan
The report sets out a 5R growth framework. Resilience: win Metro+1 expansions from firms spreading beyond big hubs. Replicate: use current successes to attract rivals, suppliers and peers. Regionalize: help South Indian companies set up their own centres. Role-led: specialise in engineering, industrial tech and innovation. Ramp-up: help existing centres take on bigger roles.
Manoj Marwah, GCC markets leader at EY India, said Coimbatore has "moved beyond the conventional definition of a second-tier city". V Noushad, chairman of CII Coimbatore Zone, called the 5R framework a practical roadmap. The report sees phased growth that depends on coordinated work across the ecosystem, not a single burst of investment.
Why it matters in Tamil Nadu
The report says Coimbatore's talent, lower attrition and Tamil Nadu's GCC incentives could help the city nearly triple its global capability centres by 2032.
