What the policy is

The Tamil Nadu DeepTech Startup Policy 2025-26 (TNDTSP) was released on 8 Jan 2026 at UmagineTN 2026. iTNT Hub, the Tamil Nadu Technology Hub, spearheaded and released it and is the nodal implementing agency. The hub describes it as India's first state-level deep-tech startup policy. (iTNT Hub)

Its stated vision is to position Tamil Nadu as India's premier deep-tech hub, as part of the state's journey towards a $1 trillion economy. (iTNT Hub)

A policy is a plan, not a scheme with an application form. It says what the state wants to achieve and which tools it will build. Individual grants and funds are announced and opened separately, so always check the call for the one you want.

What it aims to achieve

iTNT Hub lists these targets: support 100 deep-tech startups; mobilise Rs 100 crore of public and private investment; make 10 technology-transfer or licensing deals with academic and research institutions; grow annual patent filings by deep-tech startups by 25%; train over 10,000 students and professionals in skills such as AI, machine learning, robotics and biotech; award 10 research fellowships. (iTNT Hub)

It also targets Rs 10 crore of procurement of deep-tech solutions, global market access for 50 startups, test beds that support at least 25 startups a year, and a Government as Early Adopter Programme across 5 departments. (iTNT Hub)

These are goals, not guarantees. The page does not say how many have been met so far.

The five areas of support

The policy groups its help under five pillars. R&D support covers deep-tech R&D grants and help with creating and commercialising intellectual property. Funding covers commercialisation grants, scale-up funding, performance-linked micro-fund support for incubators, corporate and CSR co-funding, and a DeepTech Fund of Funds. (iTNT Hub)

Infrastructure covers deep-tech research and cluster-specific parks, government-supported test beds with a pilot deployment framework, and a shared digital platform for resources. Workforce covers talent development, doctoral fellowships, research alliances and mentorship. Adoption and market expansion covers international networking, Grand Challenges and market access. (iTNT Hub)

The page lists these as types of support. It does not give an amount, an eligibility test or an application process for any of them.

What you can use today

Some programmes that fit deep-tech founders are already running. They are separate from the policy's own grants, and each has its own rules. Open the scheme page for the details and the current status.

The state announced a Vetri Tamil Nadu Deep-Tech Innovation Fund with an initial corpus of Rs 50 crore, to be set up through iTNT Hub, in the Assembly in August 2026. We found no guidelines or application window yet. (YourStory (PTI))

What to do if you are a founder or researcher

This is our advice, not the policy's rules.

1. Read the policy on the iTNT Hub page. It links a full policy book and a key-highlights brochure. Both are scanned images, so we could not read their text; they may define who counts as a deep-tech startup.

2. Check the scheme page for each fund or programme you are considering. Our scheme list shows its status and where to apply.

3. Ask iTNT Hub directly if the policy is unclear. The hub's page lists the phone number 044 29887718 and the email office@tnthub.org.

4. Watch our opportunities page and Monday email for calls as they open.
