The Chief Minister's UK visit brought Rs 15,300 crore in commitments, including a Sigma Technology GCC expansion in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli.
What EY agreed
Ernst & Young (EY) agreed to set up a global capability centre (GCC) in Chennai. It will sit in the proposed Mount-Poonamallee GCC corridor. Business Today puts the project value at Rs 1,000 crore and says it is expected to create more than 2,000 high-value jobs.
The agreement was one of several signed in London on 14 Sep 2026, with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay present. He returned to Chennai after a six-day visit to the United Kingdom.
The other UK deals
In all, the state says the trip brought investment commitments of Rs 15,300 crore, expected to create more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. The largest came from Samvardhana Motherson International and its European and UK joint ventures: about Rs 11,000 crore for design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics sites in Tamil Nadu, with about 7,000 jobs.
Sweden's Sigma Technology Group, through its Indian company Sriya Solutions, will expand its GCC work in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, with 600 jobs in embedded systems, electrification and industrial digitalisation. UK firm Wilson Power Solutions signed an MoU for a Rs 300 crore plant in Tiruvallur district making transformers and electrical equipment, with about 400 jobs.
Why the state went
The state described the trip as part of a wider plan to draw global investment, in line with its goal of a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2036. The Chief Minister also met India's High Commissioner to the UK, Kumaran Periasamy, to discuss trade under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. He visited the Silverstone Circuit in connection with the state's proposed Motor Sports City project.
These are commitments, not finished projects. Business Today does not give a start date for the EY centre.
Why it matters in Tamil Nadu
If it goes ahead, the EY centre would add more than 2,000 jobs in Chennai, part of the over 10,000 jobs the state expects from the UK deals.
